About Nurse Nikki

I strive to improve family health outcomes and maternal health disparities by providing evidence-based education and support regarding pregnancy, birth, postpartum, breastfeeding, and new baby care.

My name is Nikki Hunter Greenaway. A New Orleans transplant by way of Dallas, I have a Bachelor’s in Sociology from Northwestern University Evanston, a Bachelor’s in Nursing from Loyola University Chicago and a Master’s in Nursing from Louisiana State University (LSU). In 2012, I started my career as a board certified family nurse practitioner.  I am not your traditional medical provider. I strive to provide holistic, yet evidence-based care that is catered to my client’s physical, mental, and emotional needs.

My nursing career includes work in pediatric intensive care, elementary and high schools, and outpatient sexual health, family and OB clinics.  My background as a pediatric nurse and women’s health advocate motivated me to provide services that would improve birth and family health outcomes in New Orleans and beyond.

Personal meets Professional

Many providers prefer not to share details about their personal lives, but I tend to dance to my own beat. My personal life is what prompted me to start my journey as a “mompreneur.” My narrative is a part of who I am and what I have to offer. In 2008, I married my college sweetheart and we have 3 super cool kids. After the birth of my son I experienced postpartum depression. I was so confused by these feelings because I had a great network and the means to get help, but I found little assistance for my postpartum woes. The support services were simply not there. Looking back on those days, I now know that my depression stemmed from my inability to accept the various changes my body had undergone.  I questioned: “Why is breastfeeding so much harder than it looks?” “Why does my vagina look and feel different?” “Why am I having these morbid thoughts after pregnancy?”

To move through my postpartum depression, I learned to channel “Nurse Nikki” and access my medical training to find a way through.  The answers to my nagging questions became my business plan. Today, I educate and counsel women, families, schools and businesses about pregnancy, birth, postpartum, breastfeeding and new baby care. I have created partnerships with over 70 child care centers, schools and businesses to implement health policies and programs that foster and safe and healthy environment for the both the students and staff.
